Code Enforcement is the fair and equitable inspection and enforcement of environmental hazards to protect the public health, safety and welfare.  This is accomplished through enforcement and education of city ordinances and state laws to improve the quaility of life and aesthetics in our neighborhoods.  Code Enforcement does not enforce HOA or deed restrictions.

To the extent possible, Code Enforcement Officers attempt to proactively address violations before receiving a public complaint.  However, many violations are initiated as a result of a reported concern.

Code Enforcement Officers actively enforce city codes and ordinances by educating the public on the city ordinances that are in place in the City of Richwood.

This is accomplished by:

• Teaming up with citizens and businesses inside the city
• Emails, letters, notices, etc.
• Interacting with the public on a daily basis
• Working closely with other City departments, such as:
  • Richwood Police Department
  • Richwood Public Works
  • Richwood Building Department
  • Richwood Fire Department

While the City of Richwood has granted authority for Code Enforcement Officers to issue citations, their primary goal is for problems to be resolved voluntarily by the property owner.
