PUBLIC NOTICE: Water Disinfectant Conversion
Beginning June 9, 2025, Brazosport Water Authority will temporarily switch the water disinfectant from chloramines to chlorine. This routine conversion, which occurs twice a year, helps remove excess ammonia—a byproduct of chloramine disinfection—from the water distribution system.
The conversion will last for approximately three weeks, ending on June 30, 2025.
What to Expect:
-
Chlorine odor may be noticeable in tap water within 24 to 48 hours after the conversion begins.
-
Temporary discoloration may occur due to the disturbance of iron sediment in the water lines.
-
Water remains safe to use and drink. Chlorine levels will not exceed the maximum limit of 4.0 parts per million, as regulated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
This process is a TCEQ-mandated procedure for all water systems that use chloramines as a disinfectant.
