Brazosport Water Authority | Chlorine Conversion

 

Beginning on December 9th, 2024, Brazosport Water Authority will begin converting water disinfectants from chloramine to chlorine. The conversion of potable water disinfectants to chlorine is a biannual occurrence implemented to rid water distribution lines of excess ammonia, a chloramine disinfectant byproduct. The conversion will last for three weeks, continuing through December 30th.

During the chlorine conversion, residents may experience a chlorine odor in their water and/or discolored water due to iron sedimentation breakup within distribution lines. At no time will the maximum chlorine concentration allowed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (4.0 parts per million) be exceeded. Chlorine conversions are required by TCEQ for any water system using chloramines as a primary disinfectant. For any questions regarding chlorine conversions, please contact:
